About Men's Services

alt

It is our aim to provide an open environment where men are able to examine issues around anger, abuse and violence. Men, who do not believe that their behaviour is abusive or violent, often wonder what the fuss is all about when they get arrested for family violence; get a domestic protection order served on them or when their partners leave.

Our education programmes, counselling, advocacy and referral service encompasses the following:

S  Safety for partners, children, you and others

T  Teaching and practicing appropriate behaviour

O  Options for improving relationships

R  Relationships with our partners, children and others,

M  Me, building ‘mana’ through self-respect and confidence

The word STORM is a metaphor to describe the dark clouds of fear, confusion and anxiety that families experience and the indecision and resistance that they go through during and after instances of family violence.

It is important to understand that our programmes do not guarantee that all men will change their behaviour. However, our programmes will give men reasons to want to change.

OUR MEN'S SERVICE

  • Challenges behavior - past actions, examine and confront the outmoded values, beliefs and attitudes that contribute to family violence.
  • Educates men so they can make informed decisions about their lives
  • Helps men gain empathy and respect for their partners and others
